While our services cover a wide range of pests, insects and other creatures, following is some handy information with regards to some of the most common menaces.

Ants and Ant Control

• Ants live in colonies, not singly.
• Most ant species invade structure from outside. Therefore exclusionary practices and exterior pest management are key.
• Many ant species are most active at Night. Therefore early evening inspections help locate ant nests and active trails.
• Interestingly Ants use pheromone trails to travel back and forth from nests to food and water source.
• Rain gutters and reefs serve as excellent ant trail and nesting sites.
• Ants are sensitive to temperature changes and weather conditions. Extremely hot and dry weather forces ants to move indoor.
• If you eliminate one ant colony , another colony of the same or a different species can rapidly occupy the vacant space.
• Large trees harbor several ants nests as well as several different species.
• If you plug each of the holes where ants are entering structures, it will help keep ants from re-entering.
• Rain gutters and roofs serve as excellent ant trail and nesting sites.
• Water sources are critical for ant survival .thorough inspection of all water sources around the house is a must.

Rats

The Rat, the nocturnal , or the more religiously known as Mooshak , the chosen mode of carrier of Lord Ganesha and a messenger of all our wishes is worshipped in all over India. It is such a revered animal that a temple in Rajasthan is devoted to the worship of the Rat. But this devout animal poses a huge threat to the very economy of community health of our country.

Rats are bright; they are agile and are very competent in finding their source of survival. They breed very fast and young ones reach sexual maturity as early as three months. This can mean an alarming population growth and a harsh reality directed towards an epidemic.

They thrive in gutters, garbage bins and at places where there is clutter of human and industrial waste. They have an innate ability to compress themselves out and squeeze through the smallest of openings. Even with the closed doors, it is easier for them to enter a kitchen stealthily and contaminate the utensils and eatables. We all know that rats are responsible for spreading dreaded diseases like Plague and Murine Typhus mainly by the parasites they contain, their droppings, urine and hair. People also have major issue of being bitten by rats in the night during sleeping.

Interestingly, age-old technique of wiping out rates using Rat-trap/cage has also become ineffective as this smart creature has mastered the technique of separating the contents in the trap without being caught.

Ever since then, science has progressed and our scientists have successfully invented effective pesticides to remove the most robust of rats from our society.

Mosquito species preferring to breed around the house, like the Asian Tiger Mosquito, have limited flight ranges of about 300 feet. Most species have flight ranges of 1-3 miles. When caught up in updrafts that direct them into winds high above the ground, mosquitoes can be carried great distances.

•           How much blood Mosquito take in a meal?

When feeding to repletion, mosquitoes imbibe anywhere from 0.001 to 0.01 milliliter.

•           Why do mosquitoes feed on blood?

Female mosquitoes imbibe blood so that their eggs can mature prior to laying. It serves no nourishment fuaction. Males do not take blood meals at all. In order to obtain energy, both male and female mosquitoes feed upon plant nectars - much in the same manner as honeybees.

Lifespan vary by species. Most adult female mosquitoes live 2-3 weeks. Some species that over-winter in garages, culverts and attics can live as long as 6 months.

•           How high do mosquitoes fly7

In general, mosquitoes that bite humans prefer to fly at heights of less than 25 ft. Asian Tiger Mosquitoes have been found breeding in treeholes over 40 feet above ground. In Singapore, they have been found in apartments 21 stories above ground. Mosquitoes have been found breeding up to 8,000 feet in the Himalayas and 2000 feet underground in mines in India.

•           Can mosquitoes transmit AIDS

Many studies have been conducted on this issue worldwide. To our knowledge, there has never been a successful transfer of the virus from an infected source to another host by blood-feeding insects under experimental conditions. The experts have concluded that the insects are not capable of such transmission. Many biological reasons would lead one to this same conclusion, but the extensive experimental studies are the most powerful evidence for the conclusion.
